According to local legend the story goes that Shah had a dream about a celestial vehicle and decided to build a temple to resemble it. He invited many sculptors and artisans to design the temple, but was dissatisfied with their work until he met Depa, a local architect, who helped him realize his vision. Shah then asked Rana Kumbha for land to build the temple, and the king agreed, also suggesting that a town be built around it. Construction began in 1446 Vikram Samvat and took over 50 years to complete, with more than 2,500 workers involved. As a gesture of gratitude, Shah named the temple "Ranakpur" after Rana Kumbha. The legendry Rajput king renowned for his patronage of art and architecture, This grand temple dedicated to Lord Adinatha, the first Tirthankara of Jainism.
